Benedito A Carneiro, MD, MS is a Medical Oncologist with research interests in developmental therapeutics, solid organ malignancies, and genitourinary cancers. Dr. Carneiro is the Director of Clinical Research and Cancer Drug Development (Phase I program) at the Lifespan Cancer Institute, Associate Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, and Co-Leader of the Therapeutics Program at the Legorreta Cancer Center at Brown University. Dr. Carneiro is a Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials evaluating novel treatments for advanced solid tumors including cancers of the kidney, bladder, prostate, lung, pancreas, colon.  He is leading first-in-human clinical trials investigating novel immunotherapy strategies, genomic-driven targeted therapies, oncolytic viruses, cytokines, and cellular therapies. He has expertise in mechanisms of cell death and apoptosis and is investigating the mechanisms of resistance to PARP inhibitors in translational research projects and clinical trials.

He has published more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals and multiple book chapters. He is a member of several professional societies and scientific committees, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society for Medical Oncology, and the American Association of Cancer Research.
